Ongwediva — Swapo Party Youth League Secretary (SPYL) Dr Eliah Ngurare has lashed out at the Valombola Vocational Training Centre (VVTC) for "taking too long to issue certificates or diplomas to students who have completed courses".
Ngurarare unleashed the attack on the institution at a SPYL rally that had on its agenda issues affecting the youth in the region. Organizers decided to turn the rally into a meeting.
Organizers did not use the rented stage and chairs for the star rally because of the poor turnout. One of the organizers said the poor turnout was due to the many weddings taking place in the north. They would however not say whether a new date for a star rally is planned in the near future.
"The students are of the opinion that their rights to employment, information and just administrative action have been contravened by the fact that the institution has not issued the certificates of the class of 2010," the SPYL secretary said.
"I am really disappointed with these institutions. I was told that students had to wait up to six months for their results to be released, or for their certificates to be issued, only to hear that their certificates will now also not be issued within an acceptable time," he said.
He accused some officials of sabotaging government projects funded with taxpayers' money.
"Some of these officials have failed to deliver on educational commitment. They should either shape up or ship out."
The meeting, among others, discussed issues such as employment, job creation, voter apathy, entrepreneurship, crime, labour hire, constant assessment of the Swapo Party and education in general.
The spokesperson of the VTC was not immediately available for comment.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Ongwediva Patricia Kashuupulwa, SPYL District Secretary, Georgia Fabian, and other senior youth leaders.
