Angola: Joint Plans to Combat Drug Trafficking

Ondjiva — Participants to the 17th meeting of the technical committee of the Angola/Namibia joint commission on defense and security has recommended the development of joint strategic plans to combat drug trafficking along the common border.

In a final communiquee of the meeting, that reached Angop today, the participants stated that are aimed to discourage not only drug smugglers but also arms dealers tax evasion and smuggling.

The meeting also recommended faster actions against car theft and cattle rustling through exchange of accurate data and joint border patrol by the defense and security forces of both countries to deter illegal immigration.

They also discussed the possible exchange of angolan and namibian prisoners jailed in the penitentiaries of Oluno and Ondangwa (Namibia) and Peu-Peu (Angola).

The meeting was co-chaired by the delegate of the interior ministry in Cunene, sub-commissar Manuel Gouveia, and the regional commander of Ohangwena, commissioner Armas Kasita Shivute.
