Angola: Huila to Become Country's Main Grain Producer

Lubango — At least 80 farmers have been identified in Southern Huila province to participate in a project that aims at making the region one of the country's largest grain suppliers, in four years to come, the deputy president of the Angola Industrial Association (AIA) told Angop today.

Eliseu Gaspar told the press in Lubango that the farmers were located in Caluquembe adding that the first contracts for grain supply will be signed soon.

"We want to transform this great region of Huila in a potential cereals supplier in Angola, meeting the government investments in granaries", he said.

Huila province produces over 500,000 tons of cereals per year and the main producing regions are Matala, Caluquembe, Chicomba, Caconda and Chipindo.
