Uganda: NRM Supporters in Kyenjojo Petition Party EC

Several politicians in Kyenjojo District, who contested against the State Minister for Investments Aston Kajara, in the party primaries for the Mwenge South parliamentary seat and lost to him, have filed a petition requesting for the annulment of the results.

The politicians also want the victory of Ms Lindha Timbigamba, nullified. Ms Tibagamba was declared as the party's flag bearer as the district woman MP candidate.

In joint petition to the NRM Electoral Commission, the NRM supporters say Mr Kajara and Ms Timbigamba were fraudrently announced winners because the results were from 47 polling centres out of 643 polling stations that were gazetted.

" There were a number of election malpractices that were evidenced in the exercise ranging from hooliganism to bribing voters, intimidation of voters and candidates, deliberates removing names from the voters register, importation of non-voters from other districts who also voted," the petition reads in part.

They claimed Mr Kajara transported voters to the polling stations contrary to the NRM electoral laws adding that security officials who were deployed at various polling stations worked in favour of the minister and his wife.

Kajara was announced as a winner with 11,736 votes, while his closest rival William Kaija, the Kumi Resident District Commissioner got 7,996.

A number of politicians who were defeated in the polls have petitioned the NRM Electoral Commission over electoral malpractices in the ongoing primaries.
