Kenya: Judicial Body to Be Set Up in October

Nairobi — An eleven-member Judicial Service Commission is set to be established by the end of next month.

A Bill seeking to establish the JSC is one of the two Bills which will be tabled before the Cabinet on Thursday for debate and approval.

The second one is the Vetting of Judges and Magistrates Bill which has already been discussed and fine-tuned by the Cabinet Committee on the Implementation of the new Constitution.

On Wednesday, Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister Mutula Kilonzo said the committee has been working round the clock to prepare the Bills because of the strict time lines that have been set for their implementation.

"This (readiness of the Bills) shows that the government is determined to implement the new Constitution," he said.
