Nigeria: Nwodo Warns States Against Imposition of Candidates

Abuja — National chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, yesterday warned party officers particularly state chairmen, at all levels to desist from imposing candidate of their choice.

Nwodo, in a statement from his media assistant Ike Abonyi, directed all party offcers to stop making themselves campaign managers of aspirants .
He gave the warning while addressing a delegation of party members from Taraba State who have listed a number of allegations against the state chairman of the party.
He said that, “as umpires in a game, leaders of the party must remain neutral.

“Don’t close the door to any aspirants; give them equal attention, if you have interest hide it.”

Nwodo, who said that the national leadership of the party will deal with any state or ward official said to be campaigning for one candidate, noted that neutrality is necessary for leaders of the party so as to give a sense of belonging to all members.

Earlier, the leader of the Concerned Elders of Taraba PDP, former Minister of Youth Development and a senatorial aspirant Mrs Salome Jakanda faulted leadership style and administration of the party in the state.

She said that the state chairman has been arbitrary in his style leading to some unconstitutional actions like the removal of statutory officers without due process.

Dr. Jakanda urged the NWC to intervene in Taraba PDP affairs and ensure that justice and fairness is returned to the aggrieved members in the state.
