PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Hanky Kalenga Ward councillor, Andrew Msiska is new Mufulira mayor. Mr Msiska scooped the position of mayor after he polled 15 votes against 13 for his only rival, Joshua Mulenga of the MMD in a tightly contested mayoral elections held at the Mufulira Municipal Council on Tuesday.
Council public relations officer, Victoria Moyo confirmed the results of the elections which was presided over by Town Clerk Charles Mwandila and said a total of 29 votes were cast out of which one was declared invalid.
Ms Moyo said the position of Deputy Mayor went to MMD Minambe Ward Councillor Catherine Mutale Daudi who defeated Michael Chisanga of PF by 16 to 13 votes.
In Chingola, PF's Chitimukulu Ward Councillor MacDonald Mulongoti took the mayorship by 14 votes out of the total 28 votes cast.
Mr Mulongoti beat two other councillors George Sichula (PF) and Stephen Mubanga (MMD) from Twatasha and Musenga wards respectively who got seven votes each.
PF's Eastwood Mubanga of Kasala Ward went through unopposed to take the deputy mayor's position.
Mr Mulongoti takes over from Simon Chanda who served the maximum two terms in office while the deputy replaces Catherine Zulu of Chikola Ward.
In Kalulushi, incumbent Mayor Everisto Mwalilino failed to retain his position after fellow MMD Chibuluma Ward Council Emmanuel Mazokela defeated him in mayoral election held yesterday in the council chambers.
Kalulushi Municipal Council public relations officer, Kangwa Muma confirmed the results and said Mr Mazeko got 15 votes against eight for Mr Mwalilino.
Mr Muma said the position of deputy mayor went to PF Kafue Ward Councillor Bernard Mumba who equally polled 15 votes to defeat incumbent Robby Machayi who got eight.
And Trudy Ng'andu of MMD is the new Chililabombwe mayor for the 2010-2011 civic year taking over from Benny Mpande after elections held in the council chamber on Tuesday Afternoon.
Ms Ng'andu of Yotamu Muleya Ward polled 12 votes against her closest rival Lydia Mpepo (PF) of Helen Kaunda Ward who polled 11 votes for the position, which was only contested by the duo.
The position of deputy mayor went to Geoffrey Nkhoma (PF) of Ngebe Ward who emerged victorious after polling 16 votes to beat William Lloyd (MMD) of Anoya Zulu Ward who polled seven votes.
In Kitwe, PF Bupe Ward Councillor, Elias Kamanga was yesterday declared mayor of Kitwe after he went through unopposed in the mayoral elections held in the council chambers.
Acting Town Clerk, Mukomambo Mbaimbai who presided over the elections declared Mr Kamanga new mayor of Kitwe after his fellow PF aspiring candidate Chileshe Bweupe pulled out from the race due to alleged differences among themselves.
The position of deputy mayor went to PF Ipusukilo ward councillor John Mwape who also stood unopposed.
