Nigeria: Lulu, Others Moved to Kuje Prisons

Abuja — Former eggheads of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi, first vice president, Amanze Uchegbulam, Secretary General, Bolaji Ojo-Oba and Chairman technical committee, Taiwo Ogunjobi, who were arraigned on a ten count charge of misappropriation of funds amounting to N1.1b were yesterday taken to Kuje Prisons due to their inability to fulfill the bail conditions imposed on them by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The court had granted bail to Alhaji Sani Lulu, Amanze Uchegbulam, Dr Bolaji Ojo-Oba and Taiwo Ogunjobi, in the sum of One Hundred million naira(N100m) each and two sureties. The sureties, according to Justice David Okorowo, must own landed properties within the Federal Capital Territory and one of them must be a level fifteen federal civil servant not below the rank of an assistant director, while the second surety must swear to an affidavit of means in addition to presenting a three year tax clearance certificate. But as late as 7.15pm yesterday, Alhaji Sani Lulu and the other three accused persons were unable to fulfill all the conditions which necessitated their being returned to the anti-graft agency custody.

The four accused persons were arraigned for allegedly contravening the public procurement act in their purchase of an inferior bus for the Super Eagles in addition to sponsoring non-officials of the federation to the just concluded World Cup in South Africa among other financial impropriety. Meanwhile, the trial of the four accused persons has been fixed for October 5, 2010.
