Uganda: Bobby's Contract Extension On Hold

Bureaucracies still stand in the way of Bobby Williamson penning his new deal as Uganda Cranes coach. The 50-year-old Scot was due to sign a four-year extension on Wednesday, according Fufa president Lawrence Mulindwa. "It's true. His agent has been here and Bobby will sign an improved four-year deal tomorrow (Wednesday)," he told Daily Monitor on Tuesday. But the signing couldn't take off as the government was yet to commit to paying the coach's salary. Fufa have been paying Williamson's salary (undisclosed) since he signed a two-year deal in 2008.

"The process has somehow been delayed but we're confident he'll sign," Fufa communications head Rogers Mulindwa told this newspaper yesterday."We had included Bobby's matter in our budget to the government for the qualifiers but the sports minister (Charles Bakkabulindi) asked that we address the coach's case separately. We've now written and are hopeful." Fufa CEO Edgar Watson said: "We delivered the document sometime back. And I've just talked to the National Council of Sports general secretary (Jasper Aligawesa) and he says everything is moving on right."

Bobby unconcerned

In the proposed new deal, Fufa president Mulindwa disclosed that Williamson will earn Shs113m ($50,000) for 2012 Nations Cup qualification and Shs226m ($100,000) for the 2014 World Cup in bonuses. His earlier deal covered two-air tickets a year, medical insurance, accommodation and Shs1.1m ($500) monthly phone expenses among others. Williamson is, however, unfazed. "I'm not concerned. I just carry on with my work and focus on our game against Kenya (October 9). That's what matters."

Meanwhile, Harambee Stars' head of delegation Hussein Swaleh has blamed McDonald Mariga and Dennis Oliech for their 1 - 0 loss to Guinea Bissau. Kenya coach Twahir Muhiddin, who has since dismissed calls to resign, controversially handed Oliech the captain's armband which didn't go down well with Mariga and company."I realised there was a problem after the match and I met the two players. Apparently, there have been differences between them for a while now," Swaleh told the Daily Nation.
