Zimbabwe: I Was Against This - Chuchu

Harare — Dynamos coach Elvis "Chuchu" Chiweshe has revealed that he opposed his management's decision to try and borrow players from local rivals ahead of their Champions League tie against TP Mazembe on Sunday.

Gritty midfielder Ashley Rambanapasi, Benjamin Marere, Dylan Chivandire, George Magariro, Brighton Tuwaya, Farai Vimisayi and goalkeeper Washington Arubi were all ruled out of Dynamos' next tie under Caf rules and regulations after picking up either red or two yellow cards.

The Dynamos management had announced that they have successfully negotiated with Mambas, CAPS United and Highlanders for the release of Manyatera, Stephen Alimenda and Zephaniah Ngodzo for this match, to increase their pool. But Chiweshe yesterday maintained that he had enough material at his disposal and would not need additions to the squad currently contracted to Dynamos.

He revealed that his major worry was the suspension of his number one gloveman Arubi, as circumstances now demanded that they travel with never-tested second choice goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya for this important trip. "I don't want to appear as if I am contradicting earlier announcements by the club, but the truth is we have enough cover.

"I am going to use the players that we have for this match and if anyone should blame me for that I am prepared to take responsibility. "Why should we ask for players from other clubs? We had registered them, but we failed to sign them. It's unfair to the other players at the club who helped see this team reach this stage of the competition.

"We might be having a crisis with the unavailability of the bulk of our players but we still have 16 players to select our team from. "Of course, there is an exception on the goalkeeper because it's a crucial position. That is the reason I had asked for (Willard) Manyatera," Chiweshe said.

The Dynamos coach was hopeful that Manyatera - who featured regularly in the early stages of the campaign before packing his bags under a cloud a few months ago - would be released by his club. DeMbare are scheduled to leave this afternoon via Zambia. Dynamos, who anchor the four-team group, are under pressure to win the match to enhance their slim chances of finishing among the top two and progress to the semi-finals of the competition.

Tunisian giants Esperance top the table with nine points followed by TP Mazembe with seven. "Our game plan has been thrown into complete disarray but I still have confidence in the players. We are not out yet. We could salvage something," said Chiweshe.
