Dar es Salaam — THINGS are already moving on pace as Arusha's AFC vowed to stop giants Young Africans when they clash in a Premier League match at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial Stadium in Arusha on Saturday.
AFC head Coach Wilfred Kidau was exuding with confidence on Friday, saying Yanga is just like any other team in the league.
"I'm confident that we will snatch maximum points against Yanga. I've seen them playing against Kenya's AFC Leopards on Wednesday, they are a normal and weak side. We'll expose them," said the former Simba midfielder.
He added: "I know that Yanga consider this as a must win match and this will result to much pressure on them. We will hit them on the break," said Kidau. Former Yanga defender Khamis Yusuf, who joined AFC this season, said he is determined and ready to inspire the rest in the squad to beat the Jangwani Street team.
"I'm fit and ready to face Yanga. I'll play to great effect to fight for maximum points. We did not perform well in the past two matches but our fans especially in Arusha will see quite a different side on Saturday," said Yusuf.
Yanga spokesperson Louis Sendeu downplayed AFC's comments, saying Yanga has nothing to worry about. He said the team was in great shape and ready for the match. On Wednesday Yanga tamed visiting AFC Leopards of Kenya 1-0 in an international friendly match at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial Stadium.
Ghana import Kenneth Assamoah scored the lone goal two minutes before the final whistle. While pressure is taking its toll in Arusha, same is happening 400 miles away in the City of Tanga, where defending champions Simba have a date against free spending side Azam FC at the Mkwakwani Stadium on Saturday.
Simba's marksman Mussa Hassan Mgosi, who finished as top scorer last season, said he will ignite the race to defend his 'Golden Boot' against Azam FC on Saturday.
