The National Executive Committee of the Family Planning Association and its regional body, the International Planned Parenthood Federation (PPF) with its regional office based in Nairobi, Kenya, after 53years of existence, has altered the name "Family Planning Association of Liberia (FPAL).
The disclosure of the changing of the name of the former FPAL to PPF was made yesterday by the Executive Director of the Family Planning Association of Liberia Madam Miatta K. Kiawu at a news conference held at her 18th street. According to the information, the Family Planning Association of Liberia is to be called "Planned Parenthood Association of Liberia"(PPAL).
The Executive Director told a team of reporters that over the years the Family Planning Association of Liberia has been viewed by many as been an entity that could only stop people or child bearing women from borning and nothing else.
Speaking further, she indicated that contrary to the public's view that the Association was only there to prevent women from getting pregnant, she pointed out, "the fact remains that the FPAL is beyond what the Liberian people are thinking and that it offers holistic services including a paradigm shift from Family Planning to sexual and Reproductive Health including infertility treatments for both men and women in the child bearing ages."
According to Madam Miatta Kiawu, the Association has fully embraced the new paradigm from Family Planning to the broader concept of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) in line with the recommendation of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the Beijing Conference.
"In order for the FPAL to shift from the notion of only family planning concept, the Association met at its sixteenth Annual National Members' Assembly in 2005 to alter the name from Family Planning Association of Liberia (FPAL) to the Planned Parenthood Association of Liberia (PPAL), and it was also introduced at the eighteenth Annual National Members Assembly in 2007" Madam Kiawu added.
"This new paradigm represents a broader concept of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. This will also agreed with the true concept of International Standard of the Mother organization based in London, Great Britain, the International Planned Parenthood Federation with its Africa Regional Office based in Nairobi, Kenya" he said.
The change of name from FPAL to PPAL Madam Kiawu said, is intended to create and disabused the minds of the Liberian populace, partners, friends and collaborators that FPAL is not only concentrated on family planning.
"The alteration of the name will in no way affect the methods and operations of the Association. The change of name is no political. Non profit or governmental but purely health related and to be on par with other members Association around the world in the area of sexual and reproductive Health and Rights" Mrs. Miatta Kiawu maintained.
"Our mission remains the same, to provide quality, accessible affordable and sustainable SRH including the deadly killer disease, HIV/AIDS services and rights to all men, women and youth in the country, through service providers, volunteers and partners with whom FPAL maintains a shared vision" She stressed.
Speaking further, Madam Miatta Kiawu informed journalists that PPAL remains the nation's leading local non-governmental organization, complementing the efforts of the Government and other agencies in the area of sexual and reproductive health and rights in Liberia.
She used the medium to send out a passionate plead to members of the International Community, including individuals and institutions of good will and the Liberian Government to continue their support to the institution for growth and development.
The PPAL Executive Director maintained that despite its change of name, the institution will spread the awareness throughout the country using its many volunteers to inform the rest of the Liberian people that the change of its name from Family Planning Association of Liberia to the Planned Parenthood Association of Liberia.

In many countries of the west, "continue .. growth and development .." entails the government actively encouraging women to have MORE births - and even paying women to bear more white kids (destined to exterminate the African Child).
Is "more kids" the mission of this body in Liberia? If not, then we cry "foul!", "sabotage!", "white-supremacist colonialism!", "hitlerian eugenics!" and so on .....
Family planning is just one of the steps to being taken to recover from the poverty and strife rampant here. The ability to control your family's growth so to be able to feed and educate your children is an important step toward the future.
Another commenter's concerning the elimination of the "African Child" are not based on fact. Concerned parties should gather information on the birth and survival rates in Africa before attempting to incite the public. Other sites tell the same story of Africans being bound to live in poverty due to a lack of ability to take care of their families.
Plan Parenthood is another abomination before God. If they were planning and training young girls to avoid pregnancy, while is it, that the U.S.A, is still aborting half a million babies each year? Instead of helping women avoid prenancy, they are only involve after there is a pregnancy. And innocent children are kill in the name of Family planning.
If you plan your family ahaed, or plan to be a parent by not involving yourself loosely in sexual acts with out protection, then while do you need to kill the fruit of your womb? Use the protection first, and then you are planning your family or planning to be a parent. If after doing all you can to advoid it, and your man sperm refuse to die, that child that is conceive in the next 24 hours is of God, which means, he or she is a living soul, and to not share his or her innocent blood just to satisfy your evil heart.
Plan Parenthood name, should be Change to to 'The Next Genaration Extermination of Liberia planhood'. That's all they do, Kill babies. They are abortion soliciters!! Just like other countries including their headquaters, U.S.A.
