Gambia: NEA Sensitises ANEJ-G Members

The National Environment Agency (NEA) last Friday 17th September 2010 briefed members of African Network of Environmental Journalists- Gambia (ANEJ-G) on environmental issues and consequences faced by environmental journalists, at the NEA head office along Jimpex Road in Kanifing.

Speaking at the occasion, Sheikh Alkinky Sanyang, the coordinator of ANEJ-G and assistant programme officer of Environmental Education and Communication at NEA said, the media plays an important role in the socio-economic development of the country. He stated that there is a need to organise media briefing annually for ANEJ-G members to know environmental issues and consequences faced by environmental journalists. According to him, environmental issues create a lot of problems and climate change being a global problem causes a lot of menace. He stated that journalists should take the lead not only by informing people but to do research on the dangers of climate change.
