Uganda: Why You Must Track Your Child's Varsity Education

Convinced by the hype of the near impossibility of getting a job in Uganda, Raymond Mukajanga (not real name), a second-year university student started the process of getting a visa to the US without the knowledge of his parents. He used the tuition, upkeep and hostel payment to run around looking for a passport and applying for a visa. To him, the income he would get when he landed a job abroad (kyeyo) justified the means. He failed to get the visa. His parents only found out a year later through his friends that he was no longer in school. Otherwise he was still planning to use whatever they gave him for third year to try get a visa again.
