Tanzania: Even University Professors Live in Slums

Arusha — Obunga slum in Kisumu, Kenya, is perhaps one of the most unique slums in the world. It is unique in the sense that it houses a whole university lecturer in the name of Bonface Otieno Oriaro, 34, who teaches Marketing and Economics at University of Nairobi's Kisumu Campus.

Oriaro lives in a two- room semi-permanent house where he pays a monthly rent of Kshs 2,000.00 and gets along with his neighbours very well. While men of Oriaro's status live in posh estates, Oriaro is content with a pauper's life.
