Uganda: Why Some Mothers Prefer Traditional Birth Attendants

Kampala — Although the Government has established health centres across the country, many expectant mothers still prefer the services of traditional birth attendants. As we mark the Safe Motherhood Day today, Mityana women have a sad story to tell.

Out of an old mud house, roofed with old iron sheets, Kevina Nakato, 70, emerges. A few minutes later, a woman comes out of the ramshackle house carrying her newborn baby.
