Nigeria: Senate Wants More Funding for Roads Maintenance

Abuja — Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, Festus Bode Ola, has called for improved funding for roads development and maintenance in the country to enable the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) complete its projects in the next dry season.

The Senator, who made the call in Abuja while leading members of the committee on its routine oversight and assessment visit to FERMA in Abuja, emphasised that the pivotal role of roads to the nation's socio-economic development in line with adequate funding informed its quick response to the agency's request for extending the 2009 appropriation period for road maintenance to March 2010 to enable it complete projects in dry season, which is best suited for road construction.
