Uganda: European Union Observers Warn On 2011 Elections

An advance team of the European Union election observer mission yesterday pressed for action on its 2006 recommendations and others issues raised by the Supreme Court judges in the Dr Kizza Besigye petition challenging President Museveni's victory in 2006 general elections.

The head of EU Democratisation and Elections Unit, Ms Malgorzata Wasilewska told Speaker of Parliament Edward Ssekandi that implementation of the recommendations of the 2006 observers report must be used as a guide to ensure free and fair elections. The EU team was meeting the Speaker in his office at parliament to discuss issues related to the 2011 general elections.
