Abuja — The Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon. Nduese Essien, has cleared the air on why previous policy statements to provide mass housing for Nigerians failed.
The minister in a pre-event media briefing on the stakeholders forum for the delivery of 3 million houses for civil servants coming up tomorrow admitted that, "previous government policies to intervene in the provision of mass houses truly failed.
According to him, "It is quite true that government policies are enunciated at every stage, and along the line, they are not able to implement these policies."
He mentioned the frequent changes in administration and the posting out of heads of organisations as some of the problems that has prevented past efforts through policy statements to provide houses for Nigerians.
However, Essien assured that the current administration was fully focused in addressing the earlier promise made to build 500 unit of houses across the nation.
Noting that, the plan to provide the houses was not a creation of the new Housing Ministry, rather an outstanding policy of government which the ministry picked up and decided to pursue.
