Sierra Leone: Maternal Deaths Worry Njala Health Group

Freetown — The Njala University Public Health Association (NUPHA) is appalled by the alarming reported cases of maternal deaths especially in the Bombali District in recent time. According to reports by the local charity Health For All Coalition in Sierra Leone, there were twelve cases of maternal deaths in the north of Sierra Leone for the month of October 2010. Government sources maintain a lower statistics.

NUPHA welcomes and support the free medical care for lactating mothers, under fives and pregnant women as initiated by the government of Sierra Leone but believes that an effective health care provision could be best facilitated by first understanding the health care consumers' culture and traditions.
