Kenya: High Fuel Prices Hurt Transporters

Nairobi — High fuel prices in the country are pushing transporters to the wall, eating into their profits and leaving them with few chances of survival in the business.

With the cost of transporting cargo from Mombasa to Kampala currently at $ 2,200 (Sh176,000) per trip, a truck uses 1,200 litres of diesel at a cost of Sh83 per litre, which means more than 50 per cent of the cost (Sh99,600) goes to fuel.
