Kenya: TJRC Should Be Disbanded Because It Was Misplaced and Misconceived

Nairobi — The credibility problems bedevilling the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission, including inadequate legislation, the appointment of Mr Bethuel Kiplagat, and the lack of political goodwill expressed through poor funding and the general unwillingness to intervene decisively and in a timely manner to clear any roadblocks, are deliberately caused by the system to keep the lid on the truth.

In an article, A Truth Commission is Not Feasible Without a New Law, (Daily Nation, April 29, 2008), I argued that conceptually, holding a truth commission before we had a democratic dispensation was not viable.
