Uganda: Voter Turn-Out Could Decide Poll

Kampala — Politicians who fail to beseech their supporters to turn up on polling day in next year's general elections will do so at their own peril. Voter turn-out is a key factor in election outcome differentials and deserves more attention from all campaign strategists.

The last two general elections point to important trends in voter turn-out, which, if carefully exploited, can change the fortunes of election protagonists, especially candidates in presidential elections. Wiping ghosts off the national voters register is, however, the first and most fundamental step that must be taken by politicians who are confident of support among the masses.
