Uganda: MP Accuses Colleagues of Taking Bribes

Members of Parliament use their positions to illegally accumulate wealth and promote corruption, a new book by one of their own indicates.

Authored by Aruu County MP Odonga Otto, "Theory and Practice of Parliamentary Democracy; A Parliamentarian's Perspective", questions the integrity of MPs, exposing how they have sacrificed their oversight role in chase for money. "Workshops have been held in posh hotels to consider ministry budgets yet these workshops are more than often funded by the ministries themselves," the book states. "Such workshops usually start on Fridays [and] each MP returns home with fuel allowance, even when the workshop is in the city, the normal workstation for MPs."
