Ethiopia: Anti-Corruption Commission to Bring Suspected Illegal Phone Operators to Court

The Federal Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (FEACC), which has been leading the investigation of 18 suspects detained for running illegal internet telephone services, is to bring them before the Federal High Court on Monday, November 22, 2010, after two consecutive extensions of time to collect evidence.

The FEACC arrested 43 suspects during a raid conducted in different areas of the city in October 2010. At their appearance in front of the Federal High Court First Criminal Bench within 48 hours of the raid, the police requested more time to conduct its investigation. The hearing was adjourned to November 9, when investigators again asked for more time, which the court granted, adjourning the case until this week.
