Dar Es Salaam — The US Ambassador to Tanzania Alfonso Lenhardt has said that releasing 38 Peace Corps volunteers to serve Tanzania for two years demonstrates America's collective commitment to the nation.
He made the statement yesterday during the volunteers swooning in ceremony held at the embassy. The volunteers will be stationed in 25 districts in the country including Kiteto, Karatu, Iringa Rural, Ludewa, Makete, Mufindi, Moshi, Rural Mwanga, Same, Lindi rural, Hanang, Mbarali, Mbeya Urban Rungwe, Mvomero, Newala and others.
The ambassador said that the volunteers will teach math's, science, information and communication technology (ICT), health promotion and environmental education in secondary schools, and would also teach in universities and teacher training colleges.
Lenhardt said that the volunteers will contribute to the social, economic and development of the nation by offering their commitment and intelligence.
Meanwhile Director General, Tanzania Institute of Education(TIE) Paul Mushi who was also the guest honor at the ceremony said that peace corps volunteers will bring a positive influence at teachers colleges resulting in training more teachers with appropriate approaches and skills which will have a positive multiplier effect on the education system.
Expounding he said that volunteers involve host country national teachers in developing lessons plans that motivate and engage students in critical thinking as they relate classroom teaching to real life situations.
