Ethiopia: Awash Bank Controversy Continues

Leikun Brehanu, former president of Awash International Bank (AIB), who was fired from his position by the bank's board of directors at the end of December 2010, has appealed against the decision to National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE). The bank is forming another committee to investigate his role in alleged corrupt acts committed during his management.

The board of directors made its decision to fire Leikun on December 31, in a vote by the board that was split between six in favour and two against. Bekele Nedi, chairman of the board, and Wondimu Umeta, a board member, voted against the move and wrote letters of dissent against the decision.
