Rwanda: UN Votes for New 'Mechanism' to Take Over Genocide Cases

In a development that should worry Kenya's legislators who have hatched a plan to pull the country out of the International Criminal Court, the United Nations Security Council has passed a resolution to establish a residual mechanism to carry forward cases being handled by international criminal tribunals.

The outgoing chair of the Working Group on International Tribunals and facilitator of the resolution, said by passing the decision, the council had sent a strong message against impunity, emphasising that indicted high-level fugitives could not escape justice.
