Tunisia: Peaceful Demonstration of Judges and Lawyers in Tunis

Tunis — A peaceful demonstration was staged on Thursday in front of Tunis Law Courts in Bab Bnet by a large number of judges and lawyers chanting slogans that call for the independence of judges, the freeing of all political prisoners and keeping corrupted judges in the background.

According to the reporter of TAP News Agency, participants waved banners calling for a definitive break with the symbols of the former regime in all sectors including magistrature.

They also chanted such slogans as: "No, No to the RCD ... No, No to people's torturers", "for an independent and elected Higher Council of Judges ", "YES to freedom and independence of justice."

The demonstrators started singing the national anthem several times before the police came around midday to disperse them.
