Gambia: Fire Engulfs Five Houses in Niani

Janjangbureh — A fire recently ravaged five houses in two villages in Niani District, Central River Region (CRR) north, namely;Yalal Samba and Kass Fulla, which prompted the Niani District Disaster Management Committee to visit the affected areas.

Speaking to the Daily Observer, chief of Niani, Alhaji Pierre Bah, who led the committee, said that the fire burnt down a lot of foodstuffs and other valuable items. He appealed to the people of Niani to clean their environment and make fire belts around their villages in order to avoid such incidents.

Some of the victims, Samba Chummeh Bah of Kass Fulla and Njobo Bah of Yalal Samba Village, lamented that the fire left them without much to live on because it burnt all their cash crops. They appealed to government, NGOs, and philanthropists to assist them since the fire has made life difficult for them. They explained that the disaster occurred when most people were at the weekly market (lumos).
