Gambia: Appeal of General Tamba, Others Pushed

The appeal case of the former Chief of Defence Staff of The Gambia Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Lang Tombong Tamba, Brigadier General Omar Bun Mbye, Major Lamin Bo Badjie, Lieutenant Colonel Kawsu Camara (Bombardeh), former Deputy Inspector General of Police, Momodou B. Gaye, Gibril Ngorr Secka and Abdoulie Joof (alias Lie Joof), on Friday 21st January, did not continue before the panel of three Judges at The Gambia Court of Appeal due to the appelants request for more time to enable them to file additional ground for their appeal against their conviction to death.

The senior defence counsel Pap Ousman C. Secka asked for the Court's indulgence to grant them an adjournment because they have found it necessary for them to file an additional ground for their appeal. Counsel Secka said he has consulted the State Counsel regarding their intentions and that he was given the assurance by the State Counsel that the state will not oppose their request. He told the Court that they needed at least two weeks adjournment to enable them to argue their case orally. He added that the case is very important not because of the charges, but due to the nature of the jurisprudence.
