Nigeria: CAF Seat - Toro Tasks NSC, House Committee on Galadima

Abuja — Former NFA Secretary General Sani Toro has tasked the National Sports Commission (NSC) as well as the Senate and House Committee on Sports to mobilize support for Ibrahim Galadima's CAF executive committee aspiration and ensure that the seat vacated by Amos Adamu is retained by a Nigerian.

He also charged the Aminu Maigari led board to redeem what is left of its image and move very fast to lobby for Nigerian to step into the vacant position left by Adamu in line with Article22 subsection 12 of the CAF Statutes.

Toro maintained that it would be a monumental disaster if Galadima fail in his bid for the CAF seat pointing out that in view of the short time left before the coming election, government should not spare any expense and contact to get back the CAF seat.

"WE have already lost the FIFA seat; so it is very very important that we do all we can to get back the CAF seat. Nigeria has done a lot for the development of the game in the continent and CAF has always relied on Nigeria in time of urgent need. These are issue that we have to put forward. Hayatou cannot afford to fail us because Nigeria hs supported his leadership of CAF 100%".

The former House of Representative member from Bauchi maintained that valuable time has already been lost by NFA in the effort to secure the position for suspended Amos Adamu adding that now is not time to leave the Kano born sports administrator to fend for himself.

The truth is that we have all that it takes to retain the seat but do we have the political will to do so; that is why I am calling all those who should know that they must rally support for Galadima. Otherwise we may also be kissing the CAF seat bye. The Statutes stipulates that the Executive Committee should elect somebody to replace Adamu. It is true that they are not under obligation to elect a Nigerian but if we play our part well, of course Galadima can get it", declared Toro.
