Nigeria: The Aganga / Soludo Diatribe

editorial

Perhaps nothing could have better described the manifest confusion in governance or in fact the lack of seriousness that have characterised people in charge of affairs in Nigeria more than the recent verbal altercation between Finance Minister, Dr. Olusegun Aganga and former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

At issue was the management of the economy. As expected, both the Nigerian media and indeed many citizens fell for it, thinking perhaps that finally the hens have come home to roost. But, do not be deceived nothing has changed. That is the character of Nigeria's political office holders and top public servants. When in office, they go out of their way to defend even the indefensible but once they are shown the exit, they begin to sing a different tune. All the same we welcome the verbal exchange to the extent that it will help to expose all of them, while hoping that the nation benefits from it.
