Rwanda: Etincelles Exits Confederation Cup

Rwanda's representative in the Orange Confederations Cup, Etincelles has been eliminated from the competition in the preliminary round.

After returning home with a valuable 1-1 draw from the first leg two weeks ago, Etincelles lost in the return leg 2-0 at Umuganda stadium in Rubavu to Congo Brazzaville's AC Leopards on Saturday.

Eric Tubuke Nyemba scored the first goal for the visitors after just five minutes with a long range shot which left former Atraco goalie Charles Hakizimana hapless. Bienvenue Kombo added the second on the 32nd minute, which all but killed off Etincelles' hopes.

AC Leopards progressed to the next round on 3-1 on goals aggregate. Both sides had played a 1-all draw in the first leg away in Congo Brazzaville.

The Rubavu-based club was making a comeback to the African scene in nearly after 12 years of absence.

And after the damaging early exit, coach Abdul Bizimana said, "We were dominated, AC Leopards utilised their chances and they deserve to win. We were poor in every department."

Elsewhere, North African duo, Al Nasr of Libya and Moroccan side Maghreb Fez booked their places in round of 16 with victories Friday.
