A study by the UNESCO office of Uganda shows that most of Uganda's historic heritage sites have been destroyed because of the Government's failure to implement international treaties that are concerned with their conservation and preservation.
The research, carried out by Dr. Allan Kenneth Birabi of Makerere University's College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, shows a decline in the preservation of historic heritage sites.
He said the lack of a land use policy and urbanisation pose a big threat to available monuments, cultural and heritage sites as they remain susceptible to destruction by investors interested in carrying out developments on the sites.
