Zimbabwe: Mugabe's Poor Health Crippling Government Business

Mounting health problems for ZANU PF's 87 year old leader, Robert Mugabe, have limited the number of times the country's cabinet has met to discuss important national issues. On Sunday the state owned media confirmed Mugabe had left for Singapore on Friday, saying it was to have a check up after the cataract operation on his eye. It was announced he will only return on the 20th February, a day before his 87th birthday.

As media reports have noted, the executive arm of the government has only met for just two hours in the last two months. Under normal circumstances Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai is supposed to chair cabinet meetings if Mugabe is absent, but the octogenarian has made sure no meetings take place in his absence. He also apparently doesn't trust the two Vice Presidents from his own party.
