Umbrella body of telecommunications companies in the country, the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), has endorsed the Nigeria DigitalSENSE forum scheduled to hold later this month in Lagos.

The Nigeria DigitalSENSE forum, which focus is on the Internet Governance and development in the country is an annual event put together by Lagos-based DigitalSENSE Africa.

Conveying this latest news at the weekend, the Executive Secretary, ATCON, Mr. Ajibola Olude in a letter signed and dated February 26, 2011, and addressed to the Executive Director, DigitalSENSE Africa, noted that the group decided to pronounce its support for the forum because its a laudable initiative.

"Please accept the commendation and endorsement of our association on this laudable initiative," he declared.

Also, Olude promised that ATCON would mobilize its membership by encouraging them to lend their individual support to DigitalSENSE forum, so as to ensure the grand success of the roundtable, scheduled for March 24, 2011.

He noted that ATCON) as a professional, non-profit umbrella organisation of all telecommunication companies in Nigeria, since December 10, 1993, is a national trade organisation, with membership drawn from Nigeria and multi-national companies which provide telecommunications and information technology products and services in the country.

Reacting to the endorsement by ATCON, the Executive Director, Operations at DigitalSENSE Africa Media, the organizers of the forum, Mrs. Nkemdilim Nweke, said it's heart-warming, just as the endorsement came a few weeks to the event.

This year, she said, plans have been advanced to ensure that the quality of speakers and participants improve.

So far, she reiterated that the event to be presided over by the immediate past president of ATCON, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, has its main theme centered on 'Internet Governance and Broadband Evolution in Nigeria' and has been scheduled to hold at the popular Golden Gate Paradise, Ikoyi-Lagos.

She also said that 2011 edition of the annual event would witness the current second vice president, ATCON, Mr. Adewale Jones, as speaker as well as a Senior Teaching Fellow in International Trade Law with the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, Dr. Nnaemeka Ewelukwa, who has confirmed his participation at this year's Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum (NDSF) among others.

The Nigeria DigitalSENSE Africa forum is an initiative of Remnek Kommunications Ventures, a registered group of media public relations experts, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) analysts and consultants.

NDS forum is on its third edition and has been presided over in the last two sessions by pioneer chief protagonist at Linkserve Group, Chief Chima Onyekwere, while last year saw the president of Internet Service Providers of Nigeria (ISPAN), Chief Sam Adeleke steering the forum.
