Ethiopia: Heineken to Buy Harar and Bedele Breweries

Heineken has had a bid approved to buy both Harar Brewery SC and Bedele Brewery SC for 78.18 million dollars and 85.24 million dollars respectively.

Sources within Heineken and the Privatization and Public Enterprises Supervising Agency (PPESA) have confirmed the approval of the deal, but both refused to comment in detail due to not being authorized to speak to the media.

Their bid for Harar Brewery SC was won without competition, but their bid for Bedele Brewery SC was met with three competing bids. Heineken beat the 70 million dollar bid from South West Development, the 68 million dollar bid from BGI, and the 64 million dollar bid from Carlsberg.
