Kenya: Teso Politicians Clash Over Governor's Job

TWO Teso leaders eyeing the seat of Busia County Governor clashed at the weekend at a funeral in Teso North District. Labour assistant minister Sospeter Ojaamong was incensed by remarks by rival Vincent Sidai who claimed that he had received blessing of the Soroti-based Teso Cultural leader Emorimor Augustine Osuban to be the sole candidate for the post. Sidai, the first to take to the podium, said they had been invited to Soroti, Uganda, by Papa Emorimor on March 31, but since

MP Ojaamong snubbed the meeting, he received the blessings of the cultural leader. The burial of former Kakemer Secondary principal, Titus Orupia, 50, at Rwatama village witnessed the melodrama when Ojaamong dismissed Sidai as a liar that Emorimor picked him as sole candidate. Waving a letter from the cultural leader inviting him for the consultative meeting of MPs, local authorities and mayors-elect, the Amagoro MP read out the agenda and told his opponent to look for votes with dignity instead of lying.
