Drug resistance may have high cost implications for Namibia, as proven medicines such as antibiotics are proving to be ineffective to stronger germs, a health expert said at a recent seminar held in celebration of World Health Day.
According to Qamar Naiz, principal pharmacist in the Ministry of Health and Social Services' national medicine policy coordination division, drug resistant strains can cost up to N$25 000 to treat as opposed to N$250 to treat new infections.
