Kenya: MP Decries Land Grab in Sabasaba

An MP has appealed to the Minister for Lands James Orengo to revoke the title deeds of the illegally acquired trust land in his constituency before the grabbers transfer the parcels to third parties.

Maragwa MP Elias Mbau decried rising land grab and illegal acquisition of public land in Saba Saba appealed to the ministry of land to move with speed and cancel the title deeds and revert the plots to the public.

The MP said the town has been left with no public land after land grabbers assisted by the leaders from Maragwa county council allocated themselves the plot illegally.

He pointed an accusing finger at two civic leaders from Maragwa County Council linked to the illegal allocations and acquisitions of public land. He said the names of the two suspects have been forwarded to the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission for investigations. He claimed the two councillors grabbed plots in Sabasaba trust land.

Mbau said the land was set aside for the construction of Saba Saba police post before it was illegally acquired and registered in the names of individual councilors who claim the ownership of the plots.
