At only 21, Kathy Kiragu last weekend staged her debut show dubbed 'Reharmonised: A Jazz Show of a Lifetime' at the Alliance Francais Auditorium in Nairobi. She performed to a sold-out sitting capacity and an overflow of enthusiastic fans that stood for the better part of the show.

Kathy told Word Is, "I'm the first woman locally to play jazz in a male-dominated genre of music." She added that she would like to pursue her passion for music further by "getting a PhD in Berklee."

With a five-piece band, Kathy outdid herself and proved to be one of the top female jazz pianists in Kenya. Her show was nothing short of a Tour De Force. The audience was bowled over by the artistic arrangements of her compositions and the imposing rendition of some popular hits. The band featured musicians like Chris Okana and Judith Njuguna.

Joseph Hellon, Music Director of Jether House, while commenting on the performance said, "I am fully satisfied that Kathy met and superseded the standards we set for her this first quarter of the year. She is now embarking on her graded piano exam preparations with the aim of pursuing further music training abroad."
