Uganda: North Gets Three Judges

Three High Court judges have been posted to Gulu, Arua and Lira districts to speed up the hearing of election petitions. The Outgoing Uganda Law Society Regional Coordinator, Mr Henry Kilama Komakech, said: "We hope in the next few days the cases will have been handled and judgment passed for all cases."

He added: "In the past EC petitions have been stayed in court without judgment for long." Mr Kilama said Justice Rubbi Opio will preside over all the EC cases in Acholi Sub-region within two months.

He, however, said even though lawyers resumed work after a three-day strike, they will call for a meeting if the judiciary does not handle issues raised in their petition.
