Tanzania: Six Charged Over Burning of Shops

Six people have appeared in court in Zanzibar charged with deliberately setting fire to shops in Mchangani Village, Unguja North District.The accused - Mr Mohammed Massoud Afadhali, 21; Mr Mwinyi Abdallah Msanif, 22; Mr Hassan Makame Chande, 21; Mr Haji Ame Idd, 45; Mr Talib Faki Ame, 60 and Mr Mohammed Haji Sheha, 21 - denied the charge.

The prosecution, led by Mr Mohammed Khamis Hamad from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, told the Vuga Court that the accused committed the alleged offence on May 5, causing losses totalling millions of shillings.
