Kenya: State Assessing Hospital Facilities, Says Nyong'o

THE government is assessing all public hospitals to establish requirements for expansion and improvement, to serve more Kenyans. Medical Services minister Prof Anyang' Nyong'o yesterday said that expansion and renovation works are going on in 75 of the government's 2,085 hospitals. "All government facilities will be expanded but we are currently carrying out assessments to establish how much money is required for the works. It is not something to be done overnight," said Nyong'o.

He said the cost of expanding hospitals will be factored in the next financial year budget estimates. He noted that most hospitals lack theatres, adequate wards, spacious laboratories and mortuaries, hence the need to expand them.
