Tanzania: NBC Launches Kahama Branch

Kahama — THE National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has officially opened its Kahama branch in Shinyanga Region with an assurance of enhancing its services at the Lake Zone network.

Speaking during the launching ceremony held over the weekend, NBC Managing Director, Mr Lawrence Mafuru said that the bank was launching the branch at a time when it is aligning itself with the modern times whereby agriculture, livestock and mining sectors have made big strides.

"We have precisely guaranteed that we are committed to offer services that are in line with the quality of our bank, an institution which is growing faster despite that there are diverse economic changes prevailing in the country," he said.

The MD emphasized that although there are diverse economic problems, the bank has continued to be in the forefront by contributing towards the economic growth of the country.

He said that NBC has a total investment valued at 1.5trn/-as of March, this year. "This is a clear demonstration of how NBC has been contributing towards the development of this nation. As part of our corporate social responsibilities, we always support the communities that surround us," Mr Mafuru said.

According to him, for the past three years, the bank has spent over 1bn/- in supporting the implementation of community programmes across the country.

In his speech, the Shinyanga Regional Commissioner, Dr Yohana Balele who was the guest of honour at the occasion commended the bank for opening a branch in Kahama, adding that the decision was worth emulating.

He said that the bank has rightly invested in the region which has a lot of investment opportunities. Citing an example, he said that the region, particularly Kahama District is reputed for agricultural activities and particularly tobacco and cotton farming, livestock keeping and mining.

"Business in Shinyanga Region is immense. The region is well connected to road network as well as the central line that link us with Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda," he said.

He called upon other banks which are yet to set up businesses there to do so to harness benefits that are currently available. The Kahama branch is the forth to be opened in the region. The bank has a network of 54 branches countrywide.
