The African Union Commission will hold an extraordinary session of the Assembly of Heads of States and Governments from 25 to 26 May 2011 to consider the state of peace and security in Africa within the framework of challenges and crises facing the continent. The Summit will be held at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.

The Summit follows the decision of the 275th meeting of the Peace and Security Council, which was held in Addis Ababa.

The session is also expected to review the situation in Libya, on the basis of the work being carried out by the AU High-level ad hoc Committee on Libya.

Journalists are invited to attend the opening ceremony tomorrow, Wednesday 25 May 2011 at 17:00, at the African Union Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
