Kenya: County Structures Likely to Face Housing Challenges in Nyanza

The hope for county governments has excited many as they yearn for service provision closer home. â-ƒ But implementation of the structures in Nyanza province may face hurdles due to lack of accommodation facilities in the various county headquarters.

Presently, old tin houses dot district headquarters such as Siaya, Bondo, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori which have been earmarked for elevation to county headquarters. This is coupled by poor or total lack of infrastructure which has pushed the proliferation of informal settlements. Few private developers have invested in housing in the towns as a result.
