Gambia: Truck Drivers and Sand Dealers Fault 'Yellow Trucks', 'Yellow Trucks Are Making It Harder for Us to Earn Our Living'

Truck drivers and sand dealers complain that it is becoming unprofitable for them to continue with the sand mining business as some of the trucks coloured Yellow are beginning to monopolise the sand mining business. They told this reporter that they used to derive income from the sand business but after the intrusion of the yellow trucks they were not able to derive what they used to get from the sand business.

According to concerned persons in sand business, only the yellow trucks are given the priority to load sand at sites they deem fit and therefore get the best quality sand. They referred this reporter to the new quarry at Tujereng where they said only the yellow trucks are given priority to load sand and no other trucks other than the yellow ones are allowed to load sand there.
