Kenya: Kisumu to Hire 50,000 Youth

Kisumu municipal council has unveiled an ambitious job creation strategy that will see the council employ over 50,000 youths from this July to June next year. Town Clerk Daniel Ole Nkere said yesterday that the master employment plan will begin soon after the council budget scheduled for the end of this month.

Speaking to the press ahead of the vetting of 400 shortlisted applicants among the 6000, the clerk said the youths will enhance city service delivery as the town gears for a full city charter. Earlier, the clerk intimated that 5,000 askaris will be added into the council enforcement wing to enable the council implements some of the new by-laws approved by the ministry such as enforcement of smoking zone and littering in designated areas.
